Android 17 is now officially rolling out to supported Google Pixel devices, marking the beginning of the next major Android cycle. For Xiaomi, REDMI, and POCO users, this does not mean an instant global rollout, but it gives us a clear look at the features Xiaomi may adapt inside upcoming HyperOS builds. Google says Android 17 will first reach Pixel devices, with other eligible Android devices following throughout 2026.
What Android 17 Brings to the System
Android 17 focuses less on visual redesign and more on multitasking, privacy, security, and creator-friendly tools. One of the biggest additions is App Bubbles, a new floating-window system that lets users turn supported apps into compact floating windows. On tablets and foldables, these bubbles can be managed from a dedicated bubble bar, making multitasking much closer to a desktop-style experience.
Another important feature is Screen Reactions, which allows users to record their screen and their face at the same time. This is designed for reaction videos, tutorials, gaming clips, and social media content. Google previously described this as a creator-focused Android feature, and it is now part of the wider Android 17 experience.
Privacy and Security Changes
Android 17 also brings several privacy improvements that Xiaomi users will likely notice when the update arrives with HyperOS. A new temporary location permission option allows users to grant location access only until the app is closed. This is more practical than always allowing access or manually disabling permission later.
Google also added a new Contacts Picker, similar in idea to Android’s photo picker. Instead of giving an app full access to the entire contacts list, users can select only the specific contacts they want to share. Android’s developer documentation confirms that this picker is designed as a permission-free way to share selected contact data with apps.
There are also stronger anti-theft and lock-screen protections. Android 17 makes it harder for attackers to guess a PIN or password by reducing the number of rapid attempts and increasing waiting times between failed tries. The lock screen also shows failed-attempt information more clearly, helping users understand what happened without exposing sensitive data.
Find Hub Gets Stricter Device Protection
Android 17 improves device protection inside Find Hub. When users try to lock a device remotely, the system now requires the device PIN. This adds another verification layer and reduces the risk of someone misusing access to a Google account session to control a lost or stolen device.
For Xiaomi users, this could work alongside Xiaomi’s own security and device-finding features inside HyperOS. The final behavior may differ depending on region, Google services availability, and whether the device is running a Global, EEA, India, or China ROM.
UI and Usability Improvements
Android 17 also improves smaller but important interface details. Permission indicators in the status bar and Quick Settings panel are now larger and easier to understand. This should make microphone, camera, and location activity more visible to users.
Another useful change is the new independent Assistant volume control. Instead of mixing assistant audio with general media volume, Android 17 allows the assistant’s voice level to be adjusted separately. This is especially useful for users who rely on voice assistants but do not want sudden loud responses.
Google has also included the usual Android Easter egg, continuing the tradition of hiding a small playful feature inside the Android version screen.
Affected Xiaomi, REDMI, and POCO Devices
Based on the shared Xiaomi Android 17 update list, many recent Xiaomi, REDMI, and POCO models are expected to be eligible. This list is not created by Xiaomi directly, but it is based on Xiaomi-published information and update policy tracking.
Xiaomi devices expected to receive Android 17 include:
What This Means for HyperOS
For Xiaomi users, Android 17 will likely arrive as part of a future Xiaomi HyperOS update rather than as a plain Android upgrade. Xiaomi usually adapts Google’s base Android changes into its own system layer, meaning features like App Bubbles, permission indicators, temporary location access, and Contacts Picker may appear with Xiaomi-specific UI changes.
The MemeOS Enhancer app includes a built-in Android update checker, allowing Xiaomi, REDMI, and POCO users to check whether their device is expected to receive Android 17 and future HyperOS updates. This makes it easier for users to verify eligibility without waiting for manual rollout lists or regional announcements.
