Xiaomi 18 Pro case leak reveals bigger camera and new AI button

A recently leaked Xiaomi 18 Pro case provides clear insights into the phone’s evolving hardware design, especially around its camera module and a new AI button. Testing the case on a Xiaomi 17 Pro reveals precise changes in size and layout that hint at significant upgrades for the upcoming flagship.

Camera Module Expansion and Sensor Enhancements

The case exposes a noticeable gap under the camera island when fitted on the Xiaomi 17 Pro, confirming that the Xiaomi 18 Pro’s camera assembly extends downward compared to its predecessor. This extra space likely accommodates a larger ultra-wide sensor or an updated optical setup with greater aperture or focal length. Such adjustments strongly suggest Xiaomi’s focus on improving the 18 Pro’s photographic capabilities.

Size Changes and Button Layout Stability

While the phone appears slightly taller along the vertical axis, the volume rocker and power button on the right side remain in the same precise position as on the older model. This indicates that Xiaomi has preserved the familiar ergonomic shape despite the internal changes. The slight length increase may serve to balance the bigger camera island or provide additional room for components like the battery or cooling system.

Introduction of a Dedicated AI Button

One prominent new hardware feature is the addition of a fourth button situated alongside the traditional keys. This is widely expected to serve as a dedicated AI button linked to Xiaomi’s HyperOS ecosystem. The button might quickly trigger AI-related functions such as smart camera modes, live translation, or voice assistant activation. Previous leaks also hinted at this AI shortcut, making it one of the key hardware novelties for the 18 Pro. We saw AI button last on Mi 9 and MIX 3.

Launch Timeline and Model Variants

Xiaomi plans to launch the Xiaomi 18 Pro with the 18 Pro Max in September 2026. The standard Xiaomi 18, codenamed Venice, will arrive later between December 2026 and January 2027. The 18 Ultra model’s release has been canceled. Notably, the Pro variants will be available in India, while the regular 18 is not planned for that market.

Transparent Edition and Hardware Specifications

The Xiaomi 18 Pro series will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset. It will debut SmartSens’ new 200MP 1/1.28-inch LOFIC 3.0 sensor for the main camera, alongside a second 200MP sensor, marking a leap in imaging hardware. Additionally, the transparent edition design—last seen on the Mi 10 Ultra—will make a return with this series. Users anticipating the Xiaomi 18 Pro can expect a refined design balancing ergonomic familiarity with significant sensor and feature upgrades, including the HyperOS-integrated AI button.
