Xiaomi Confirms: 3 Things You Thought Were Bugs in HyperOS Are Actually Features

Xiaomi’s latest official Bug Report has finally put an end to the confusion that has been circulating within the community and forums for some time. While many Xiaomi, POCO, and REDMI users have been reporting what they believed to be annoying system bugs to the company, the official statement from the development team changes the narrative completely. According to the reports, three specific situations encountered in the Xiaomi HyperOS interface—often mistaken for bugs—are actually a deliberate part of the system’s new design language and functionality.

The shifts in Xiaomi’s interface philosophy can sometimes break user habits. Here are the 3 features that users reported as bugs, which are entirely by design:

Media Player Not Closing on the Lock Screen

Many users reported it as a UI (User Interface) bug when the media control widget remained fixed on the lock screen even after background music or video playback was stopped. However, Xiaomi states this is not an issue. This behavior is integrated into the system entirely by design to make the lock screen experience seamless and to keep multimedia controls accessible at all times.

Xiaomi HyperIsland and the Asymmetric Battery Indicator

To a standard Xiaomi or REDMI user accustomed to the classic MIUI layout, this certainly looks like a UI bug at first glance, but it actually serves a highly practical purpose. Users reported that the battery indicator is not displayed properly or in the usual position over the HyperIsland. Technically, this is not a bug; it is a consciously designed layout strategy to create more space at the top of the screen for notifications, background processes, and other dynamic data.

Changed Haptic Feedback on Volume Buttons

The difference in haptic vibration feedback (a change in feel or response) when pressing the device’s volume buttons was mistaken for a hardware vibration motor issue. Xiaomi developers confirmed that this behavior is also not considered a problem; rather, it is a standard part of the next-generation UX (User Experience) interaction design of Xiaomi HyperOS.

Affected Software Versions

The current Build Numbers that include these “features” and were reported as bugs are as follows:

  • Lock Screen Media Player: OS3.0.6.0.WNCMIXM, OS3.0.4.0.WMCMIXM, OS3.0.4.0.WNLEUXM, OS3.0.3.0.WNOMIXM

  • HyperIsland Battery Indicator: OS3.0.2.0.WNEIDXM, OS3.0.4.0.WMCMIXM

  • Volume Button Haptic Feedback: OS3.0.3.0.WNLEUXM

The Impact of the New Design Philosophy on the Ecosystem

With Xiaomi HyperOS, it is not just the naming convention that is changing; the deep-rooted interaction habits between the device and the user are evolving. Sacrificing standard status bar space to make HyperIsland more functional, or aggressively keeping media controls on the lock screen, are visionary details that speed up daily use. While it may challenge our muscle memory in the short term, these changes aim to deliver a much smoother and more modern mobile ecosystem experience in the long run.
