Xiaomi has confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro smartphone will debut a new AI-powered photography feature named “Legendary Moment.” This large-scale model imaging mode claims to produce image quality comparable to professional cameras.
Camera Hardware and Imaging Features
The Xiaomi 18 Pro series introduces a dual 200MP Leica imaging system, including a newly designed Leica 200MP large-base periscope telephoto lens. This telephoto camera features a 1/1.56″ large sensor with a native 75mm focal length, offering 3.2x optical zoom and up to 12.8x lossless zoom. It also employs a dual group floating autofocus mechanism and supports telephoto macro photography at 12cm distances.
This advance builds on Xiaomi’s previous Leica partnership seen in the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition, which featured the exclusive “Leica Moment” mode. That mode included two styles: Leica M9 for rich colors and classic CCD tones, and Leica M3 + MONOPAN 50 for a black-and-white film aesthetic, both using a 3:2 full-frame ratio derived from Leica’s first film cameras.
Additional Xiaomi 18 Pro Highlights
The phone will run on a 2nm flagship mobile platform and showcase a next-generation Super Pixel display with a new M11 light emission system. It sports a narrow bezel design at only 0.99mm and features a 32% high-silicon Xiaomi Jinsha River battery.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro series launch event is scheduled for September 23 at 19:00 (China time). The integration of advanced AI imaging with Leica-grade hardware suggests Xiaomi is pushing further into premium photography for smartphones, aiming to match professional image quality in a mobile form factor.
