Xiaomi has officially started teasing the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Max, and the company is heavily focusing on one feature: imaging performance. The new flagship smartphone will debut with Xiaomi’s first Leica-tuned 200MP main camera, and Xiaomi has now revealed a surprising detail about its official sample shots. According to Xiaomi President Lu Weibing, the three published camera samples were actually cropped from a single original 200MP image, demonstrating the extreme detail retention capabilities of the new sensor.

The Xiaomi 17 Max is confirmed to feature Xiaomi’s first Leica co-engineered 200MP primary camera paired with a 3X periscope telephoto lens. Xiaomi says the camera system is designed around high-detail photography and advanced computational imaging.
Lu Weibing revealed that the main sensor uses a large 1/1.4-inch sensor size and supports multi-frame fusion algorithms. This technology combines multiple exposures and image data layers to improve dynamic range, detail clarity, and low-light performance. Xiaomi claims the final images remain extremely sharp even after significant zooming or cropping.
The most interesting part is how Xiaomi demonstrated this capability. The three official sample photos shared online were not separate images. Instead, they were cropped from one giant original file captured by the 200MP camera. The original image reportedly has a file size of 114.97MB, while the cropped samples range between 10.29MB and 31.86MB.
This approach highlights Xiaomi’s confidence in the sensor’s resolution and detail preservation capabilities.
