MediaTek’s next-generation flagship smartphone chip may become more expensive than expected, potentially affecting the pricing strategy of future premium Android phones, including Xiaomi, REDMI, and POCO devices. According to a new industry report, the upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro could be priced at around $216, marking an estimated 8% to 20% increase compared with the current Dimensity 9500 series. While Xiaomi has not announced any Dimensity 9600-powered device yet, this price movement could influence future flagship and upper-premium models.
What caused the price increase?
The reported price hike appears to be connected to a broader recovery across the semiconductor industry. Demand for new smartphones is rising again, while emerging markets are also showing stronger purchasing activity. This gives chipmakers more pricing power, especially in high-end mobile SoCs, connectivity chips, and smart device components.
The report also mentions that Realtek is preparing to raise prices on some product lines by around 10% starting in July 2026. MediaTek is now expected to make a similar adjustment for its upcoming flagship Dimensity 9600 series.
This is not only a simple component price change. It reflects a wider structural recovery in the chip market, where advanced manufacturing nodes, stronger AI performance, and next-generation memory support are making flagship SoCs more expensive to produce.
Dimensity 9600 Pro expected specifications
The MediaTek Dimensity 9600 series is expected to include both a standard version and a Pro version. The standard Dimensity 9600 is reportedly based on TSMC’s N2 process and supports LPDDR5X memory.
The more powerful Dimensity 9600 Pro is expected to use TSMC’s N2P process, making it one of MediaTek’s most advanced mobile platforms so far. It may also support LPDDR6 memory, which would bring better bandwidth and improved efficiency for future flagship smartphones.
Expected Dimensity 9600 Pro CPU configuration:
- 2 ARM C2-Ultra cores running at approximately 5GHz
- 3 ARM C2-Premium cores
- 3 ARM C2-Pro cores
- Advanced all-big-core architecture
- Expected support for next-generation AI and high-performance mobile workloads
This configuration suggests that MediaTek is targeting a major performance jump, especially in gaming, AI processing, multitasking, and sustained flagship performance.
How this could affect Xiaomi users
The reported Dimensity 9600 Pro price increase could be especially important for Xiaomi’s global T series strategy. Xiaomi has frequently used high-end MediaTek Dimensity platforms in its T series smartphones, positioning these devices as performance-focused alternatives to the company’s more expensive flagship models.
If the Dimensity 9600 Pro reaches an estimated price of $216, Xiaomi may need to carefully balance performance, camera hardware, battery capacity, and final retail pricing for upcoming T series devices. This could affect future models such as the next-generation Xiaomi T Pro lineup, where flagship-level performance is one of the main selling points.
For users, the impact may be mixed. On one side, the Dimensity 9600 Pro could bring major improvements in CPU performance, AI processing, gaming stability, and HyperOS fluidity. On the other side, higher chip costs may make it harder for Xiaomi to keep T series pricing as aggressive as previous generations.
