REDMI has confirmed the K100 Pro will be among the first smartphones to feature Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 V Series processor (model SM8850-1-AB). In lab tests, the device scored over 4.09 million points in combined benchmarks, highlighting its top-tier performance.
Processor Details and Performance Highlights
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 V Series chip powering the K100 Pro closely matches the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in CPU configuration. It includes two Oryon super-large cores clocked up to 4.6 GHz and six performance cores running at up to 3.62 GHz. The built-in Adreno 840 GPU runs at 1.2 GHz but has a reduced size with 8 compute units instead of 12, while dedicated high-performance memory (HPM) is lowered from 18 MB to 12 MB.
The chipset retains other flagship features such as the Hexagon NPU for AI processing, X85 5G modem, FastConnect 7900 connectivity, support for LPDDR5X RAM, UFS 4.1 storage, and Qualcomm Spectra ISP. This balance aims to maintain flagship-grade CPU, AI, and connectivity capabilities while reducing the bill of materials.
Additional Hardware and Cooling Innovations
The REDMI K100 Pro also includes an AI-dedicated discrete graphics chip and a 3D loop pump cooling system. These features aim to enhance gaming performance and allow the device to sustain high processing power through advanced thermal management. REDMI describes the setup as a “violent engine deeply tuned for full-strength performance.”
Chipset Variants and Market Positioning
Qualcomm currently offers four Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 versions: the SM8850-AC standard chip for most flagships; the SM8850-1-AD high-frequency variant used in Samsung and gaming phones like Nubia RedMagic and Lenovo Legion; the SM8850-5-AC seven-core variant powering the OPPO Find N6 foldable; and the new SM8850-1-AB chip for the REDMI K100 Pro. The latest version targets gaming-focused devices where manufacturers want to optimize costs without sacrificing core performance, allowing budget allocation to other user-valued features like larger batteries or higher-quality displays.
The REDMI K100 Pro series is set to launch on August 11 in China. It remains unclear if other smartphone brands will adopt this Snapdragon variant designed specifically for gaming devices.
