A new leak suggests Xiaomi’s REDMI brand is working on a wide-screen straight smartphone expected to debut in 2027. This comes from a popular Chinese leaker known as Digital Chat Station, who revealed that several Chinese smartphone makers are testing wide-screen straight models, with Xiaomi among them.
Industry Trends Point to 2027 Launch
According to the leak, OPPO is likely to launch the first wide-screen straight phone in the Android camp, followed by Honor. Xiaomi’s REDMI and other leading Chinese brands are also said to have multiple wide-screen straight phone projects underway, including mid-range, flagship, and camera-focused variants. All major Chinese manufacturers in the top five have reportedly completed project approvals and are accelerating testing with various designs.
From Xiaomi’s Foldables
This announcement follows Xiaomi’s recent launch of the Xiaomi 18 Fold in September. The foldable phone features a 5.38-inch external display and a 7.58-inch internal screen, both using a paper-like 1.414:1 aspect ratio. It includes the proprietary XRING O3 chip, Leica triple cameras, a 6000mAh battery, and a super bright 4000-nit LTPO display. The Xiaomi 18 Fold costs about $1,500 (CNY 10,999) in China.
Implications for REDMI
The reported wide-screen straight phone from REDMI entering the market in 2027 would add a new form factor amid the foldable trend. This suggests Xiaomi is broadening its device strategy beyond foldables and traditional smartphones, exploring wide-screen straight phones that may appeal to specific user needs.
At this time, detailed specifications, exact model names, and market availability have not been confirmed. The 2027 timeframe indicates the device is currently in early development or testing.
