Xiaomi SKYNOMAD SUVs Surpass Industry Crash Test Speeds by Wide Margin

Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun has shared a video showing the rigorous crash tests of the new Xiaomi SKYNOMAD series vehicles. According to Lei Jun, the testing surpasses standard industry safety benchmarks across multiple collision scenarios.

Higher-Speed Crash Tests Set New Standards

The Xiaomi SKYNOMAD series underwent extensive all-direction collision testing. The speeds involved in these tests significantly exceed common ratings used in industry assessments:

  • Frontal collision: Xiaomi tested at 64 km/h compared to the C-NCAP standard of 56 km/h.
  • Frontal 25% offset collision: Xiaomi’s standard is 72 km/h, surpassing the 64 km/h required by China Insurance Automotive Safety Index (C-IASI, “中保研”).
  • Side collision: The Skynomad standard is 70 km/h versus C-NCAP’s 60 km/h.
  • Rear collision: Xiaomi tested at an aggressive 92 km/h, well above the new national standard of 50 km/h.

Context of the SKYNOMAD Series Launch

This safety update follows the recent unveiling of the Xiaomi SKYNOMAD series. The launch event on July 30 introduced two new models: the N90 Max, a large seven-seat flagship range-extended SUV, and the N70 Max, a large five-seat four-wheel drive range-extended SUV. Both models are now available for pre-order.
