A recent leak from the Chinese digital insider DCS indicates that an engineering unit from a supply chain partner likely belongs to the Xiaomi 18 standard model. The device reportedly uses a square-shaped camera module positioned in the top-left corner, featuring four cameras arranged asymmetrically.
Comparison to Xiaomi 17 Highlights Design Changes
The Xiaomi 17 standard version, launched last year, also had a left-top square camera setup, but arranged its lenses symmetrically within the module. That model featured a classic flat display with a 19.6:9 aspect ratio, rounded corners with large radii, and a body made from color-matched glass and a softly curved mid-frame.
Additional Known Details from Earlier Leaks
Earlier reports about the Xiaomi 18 standard claimed it would lack the new display technology of its larger sibling but still offer a 2K-level ultra-clear flat screen with very narrow bezels. The device is said to run on a 2nm flagship chipset, offer a larger battery with 100W wired and wireless fast charging, feature dual 200MP main cameras on a large sensor, include an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and support high-level water resistance.
This aligns with past leaks that positioned the Xiaomi 18 as the only upcoming Chinese flagship with a 2nm chip, 2K ultra-clear flat screen, and dual 200MP large sensors across its configurations.
Release Timing Still Uncertain
The Xiaomi 18 series does not yet have a confirmed launch date. For context, the Xiaomi 17 was announced in September last year, offering a 6.3-inch near-elliptical flat display protected by Xiaomi’s “Dragon Crystal” glass and rated with IP66, IP68, and IP69 resistance. It debuted Qualcomm’s 5th Gen Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, housed a 7000mAh battery and featured a main sensor measuring 1/1.31 inch alongside 50MP ultra-wide and 50MP floating telephoto lenses.
The new asymmetrical camera layout on the Xiaomi 18 standard suggests a design refresh that differentiates it from last year’s symmetrical arrangement, potentially aiming for a new aesthetic or functional approach in camera setup.
