Xiaomi releases Miloco 2.0 open-source AI for smarter homes

Xiaomi has officially released Xiaomi Miloco 2.0, a new open-source whole-house smart AI solution designed to make smart homes more proactive, personalized, and context-aware. Built on Xiaomi’s self-developed MiMo large model and integrated with OpenClaw as an Agent-based system, Miloco 2.0 upgrades the way connected homes understand people, remember habits, detect risks, and execute complex household tasks without relying only on preset automation rules.

What is Xiaomi Miloco 2.0?

Xiaomi Miloco 2.0 is described as a future-oriented whole-house smart AI open-source solution. Unlike traditional smart home automation, which usually depends on fixed “if this, then that” rules, Miloco 2.0 is designed to understand context, identify family members, remember long-term habits, and make proactive decisions.

According to Xiaomi’s introduction, the system can move smart homes closer to a real AI assistant model that can remember, recognize people, and execute commands. This means Miloco 2.0 is not only reacting to direct commands but also observing home activity and making useful decisions based on common sense, family routines, and connected Mi Home devices.

Miloco 2.0 brings several major improvements over Miloco 1.0, especially in perception, identity recognition, long-term memory, and autonomous task execution.

Common sense awareness

The system can identify potential hazards without requiring users to manually create every rule. For example, it can recognize scenes such as children playing with knives or elderly family members falling, then issue different levels of warnings based on the situation.

Identity recognition

Miloco 2.0 combines facial information and body posture data to recognize family members. With large model support, it can register new members proactively and provide personalized actions depending on who is detected inside the home.

Family memory

The system can accumulate long-term habits and preferences through perception and interaction. These memories can then be used by the Agent to make proactive decisions, such as reminding users about stable routines or upgrading repeated habits into automatic household tasks.

Family tasks

Miloco 2.0 upgrades traditional conditional automation into more complex long-term family tasks. It can handle tasks such as turning on lights when someone enters, sending daily medicine reminders, tracking exercise habits, and executing multi-step actions after understanding the user’s intent.

Proactive intelligence

By combining common sense, identity recognition, family memory, and family tasks, Xiaomi Miloco 2.0 can act more like a digital butler. It observes the home, evaluates the context, and intervenes at the right time before the user needs to manually ask.

Xiaomi also provides a user-facing web panel. This dashboard gives users a real-time overview of the home, connected Mi Home devices, family members, family profiles, and historical event logs.

Real-world example: smarter proactive care

In Xiaomi’s introductory video, Miloco 2.0 demonstrates a more human-like smart home interaction. If the male homeowner arrives home later than his usual time, the system can infer that he may have been working overtime. The Xiao Ai speaker can then automatically send a voice message such as, “You’ve worked hard working overtime, you should get some rest early.”

Another example shows that when the system detects a new Mi Home device, it can automatically recommend new smart home scenarios. This makes the ecosystem easier to expand because users do not need to manually discover every possible automation.

Technical requirements

Xiaomi Miloco 2.0 is currently aimed at users and developers who want to explore advanced smart home AI deployment. The recommended setup includes:

  • Hardware: At least 4GB RAM and 256GB storage
  • Operation: 24/7 resident operation is recommended
  • Suggested device: Mac mini
  • Operating system: macOS or Linux
  • Windows support: Windows users are advised to run it through WSL
  • Account requirement: Xiaomi account with devices already connected to Mi Home
  • AI requirement: Multimodal large model API key
  • Recommended models: MiMo-v2.5 for perception and MiMo-v2.5-pro for Agent execution through OpenClaw
