Xiaomi Pad 9 leak suggests it will just rebranded Xiaomi Pad 8

Xiaomi may already be preparing its next tablet lineup, and the first internal clues point to an interesting strategy. According to findings shared by Kacper and XimiTime, the upcoming Xiaomi Pad 9 series could include two models: Xiaomi Pad 9 and Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro. The biggest surprise is that the standard Xiaomi Pad 9 may be closely related to the existing Xiaomi Pad 8, suggesting that Xiaomi could reuse a similar hardware and firmware base for its next-generation tablet.

New Xiaomi Pad 9 details appear in internal findings

The leaked information identifies M656BA as the model number associated with Xiaomi Pad 9. Kacper’s finding suggests that Xiaomi Pad 9 and Xiaomi Pad 8 may share a very similar hardware foundation, which could mean only minor revisions in some areas rather than a completely redesigned platfor with 9720 mAh battery.

XimiTime’s internal findings also reveal two separate tablet projects: The standard model appears under the donghai codename, while the Pro model uses the shuntian codename. Xiaomi also appears to use yupei_d as an additional codename for the donghai tablet, which may indicate a shared development base or firmware relationship with another tablet project.

Xiaomi Pad 9 may share firmware with Xiaomi Pad 8

One of the most important details in the leak is the possible connection between donghai and yupei_d. This suggests that Xiaomi Pad 9 and Xiaomi Pad 8 could have closely related firmware packages, or at least share same hardware. Reusing a stable firmware and hardware base can reduce development time, improve software optimization, and allow faster HyperOS update preparation. It could also help Xiaomi deliver a more polished user experience at launch, especially if the internal platform has already been tested through the Xiaomi Pad 8 series.

However, this means Xiaomi Pad 9 will be a simple rebrand. Xiaomi may only change the design, display tuning, battery configuration, storage options, accessories, or regional software packages before launch.

Expected chipset configuration

Based on the leaked internal references, the two models may use different Qualcomm platforms: The standard Xiaomi Pad 9 is expected to use Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, the same high-performance upper-tier platform already linked to Xiaomi Pad 8. The Pro model, meanwhile, may move to Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which would place Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro closer to flagship tablet territory.

At this stage, there are no confirmed details about Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro’s display, battery, charging speed, camera setup, or accessory support. The only major internal clue currently available is the shuntian codename and the SM8845P platform reference.

Possible August launch window

The Xiaomi Pad 9 series is currently expected to arrive around August, although Xiaomi has not officially announced a launch date. This timing would make sense if the company wants to refresh its tablet lineup before the next major smartphone cycle.

For now, there is no confirmed pricing.
