A developer has released a test build that allows the Xiaomi REDMI K20 Pro to run a version of Apple’s iOS 16.5. This unusual dual-boot setup supports both Android and iOS on the same device, highlighting the growing interest in custom system ports aided by AI technologies.
Dual System with Persistent Data
Unlike some other ports that rely on the u-boot bootloader, this project does not use u-boot since the REDMI K20 Pro lacks A/B partition support. Instead, the flashing process wipes existing Android data, recreates partitions, and temporarily replaces the TWRP Recovery. Users can restore the original recovery later via scripts provided by the developer.
Seamless Switching Between Android and iOS
Users can boot normally into Android. Those with root access can switch to iOS 16 using a Magisk module. Alternatively, pressing the volume up and power buttons together can start the device directly into iOS.
Caution on Stability and Risks
The developer stresses this build is experimental. Full functionality and stability are not guaranteed. Flashing the device carries a significant risk of bricking the phone. Users lacking experience are advised against attempting this modification.
About the REDMI K20 Pro Display
The REDMI K20 Pro features a 6.39-inch AMOLED screen with 2340 x 1080 resolution. Its motorized 20MP front camera enables a notch-free display, offering a “true full-screen” experience similar to iPhone’s Dynamic Island design.
Users interested in experimenting with this dual-boot iOS 16.5 build should proceed carefully. The project showcases an intriguing but risky attempt to run iOS on Android hardware.
