Newly leaked HyperOS 4 source code may explain why Xiaomi’s upcoming Liquid Glass interface will not look the same on every device. According to information found in the leaked code, the full visual effect is currently enabled only for phones using Snapdragon 8 Elite or newer chips, XRING O1 and XRING O3, and Dimensity 9500 or newer platforms. The finding points to a hardware-based limit for one of the biggest visual changes expected with HyperOS 4.
Liquid Glass Appears to Have a Hardware Requirement
The leaked code reportedly defines which chip platforms can use HyperOS 4’s advanced Glass effects.
The supported hardware currently includes:
- Snapdragon 8 Elite and newer
- XRING O1
- XRING O3
- Dimensity 9500 and newer
This suggests that Liquid Glass is not simply a launcher theme or transparency setting. Xiaomi appears to be tying the full implementation to specific high-performance chipsets.
Older Snapdragon, MediaTek, and other platforms are not included in the detected eligibility rules. However, this does not yet confirm that older phones will receive no Glass effects at all. Xiaomi could use a simplified version with fewer real-time effects on unsupported hardware. The leaked source code only tells us how the feature is currently being classified during development.
Why HyperOS 4 May Need More Powerful Chips
This restriction fits with earlier information about HyperOS 4.
Digital Chat Station recently reported that the system would use real-time light-field rendering, Glass materials, and AI-based color blending. These features are more complex than the static blur effects used in current HyperOS versions. Real-time rendering can require the system to continuously calculate background colors, transparency, light behavior, and interface layers while the user moves through the OS.
We previously covered the first HyperOS 4 Liquid Glass design concept, which showed how Xiaomi’s interface could use stronger transparency and wallpaper color refraction. More direct signs later appeared in the HyperOS 4 V8 Launcher leak, where liquid blur, new animations, and redesigned folders could already be seen. The source-code finding now suggests Xiaomi may require newer hardware to render the complete version of these effects.
New Screenshots Show More Glass Elements Across HyperOS
The latest HyperOS 4 images also show that Xiaomi is applying the Glass design beyond basic menus. One screenshot shows widgets with translucent backgrounds that allow wallpaper colors to remain visible underneath. The world clock widget uses a frosted Glass-style container, while the weather widget uses softer transparency and rounded edges.
Another image shows the home screen with Xiaomi’s redesigned icons and a compact folder. The most noticeable example appears inside the device center. Connected products such as Xiaomi Buds, Xiaomi Pad, Xiaomi SU7, Xiaomi Watch, home appliances, and cameras are displayed inside translucent cards.
These cards pick up colors from the background instead of using a completely solid surface. This closely matches the previously reported AI-sensing color blending UI and Glass material system. These screenshots are leaked from HyperOS 4 setup wizard.
Flagship Devices Could Get a Different HyperOS 4 Experience
If the leaked hardware checks remain in the final release, HyperOS 4 could have a more visible feature split between flagship and mid-range devices.
A phone powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite could receive the complete Liquid Glass implementation, while an older chipset may use simpler transparency, standard blur, or another reduced effect.
Xiaomi has used hardware-dependent visual effects before, but the leaked HyperOS 4 code suggests the difference could become more noticeable this generation.
The inclusion of XRING O1 is also important. Xiaomi’s own flagship chip appears to be fully included in the new rendering system. The source code also references XRING O3, indicating that Xiaomi is already preparing HyperOS for a future generation of its in-house silicon.
Dimensity Support Starts From Dimensity 9500
The MediaTek requirement is especially restrictive based on the leaked information.
Full Liquid Glass support is currently listed for Dimensity 9500 and newer chips. If this condition remains unchanged, devices using older Dimensity flagship processors could miss the complete rendering system despite having relatively powerful hardware.
It is still too early to build a final supported-device list from this information alone. Xiaomi may change these requirements before stable HyperOS 4 builds are released.
HyperOS 4 Is Becoming More Dependent on New Hardware
The leak adds another piece to what we already know about HyperOS 4.
Xiaomi is reportedly developing real-time light-field rendering, active AI perception, AI color blending, stacked widgets, stacked lock-screen notifications, customizable folders, and an AI assistant floating island.
At the same time, the company is increasing its use of Rust-based system applications.
Together, these changes suggest HyperOS 4 will depend more heavily on the GPU, NPU, and newer system frameworks than previous releases.
For now, the chipset restriction should be treated as a development-stage finding from leaked source code, not Xiaomi’s official HyperOS 4 compatibility policy. The final implementation may still change before release.

The Mi 15T Pro is not even a full year old and getting Obsolete with the Dimensity 9400+ even though the CPU and GPU are Far from Bad.
