Xiaomi 18 codename and model numbers appears in GSMA database

Xiaomi’s next compact flagship has appeared in the GSMA database under the codename “madrid”, giving us the first strong sign that the Xiaomi 18 series is moving closer to official certification. According to the newly detected model numbers, the device is being prepared for China, India, Global, and Japan markets. However, new information from Mi Code suggests that Xiaomi may have changed its internal model-number strategy this year, creating uncertainty over whether “madrid” belongs to the Xiaomi 18 or Xiaomi 18 Pro.

GSMA database reveals Xiaomi “madrid” model numbers

The newly detected Xiaomi “madrid” device appears with multiple regional model numbers, confirming that this is not a China-only test model. The presence of Global, India, and Japan variants suggests Xiaomi is preparing a broad international release for this flagship phone.

Detected model numbers

This is important because Xiaomi’s flagship-numbered series usually arrives first in China before expanding globally later. The early appearance of multiple regional variants shows that Xiaomi may already be planning the Xiaomi 18 series with a wider launch strategy from the beginning.

Xiaomi 18 or Xiaomi 18 Pro? Model-number logic has changed

Normally, based on Xiaomi’s previous internal naming algorithm, the Q3 model number would be expected to represent the standard Xiaomi 18, while the Q2 model number would point to the Xiaomi 18 Pro. However, the latest Mi Code information reportedly links “madrid” with a Q2 model number, which makes the situation more complicated.

Under the older logic, this would suggest that “madrid” is the Xiaomi 18 Pro. But recent leaks indicate that Xiaomi may not release a Xiaomi 18 Ultra this year due to cost-related reasons. If there is no Ultra model in the lineup, Xiaomi may have reorganized its internal hierarchy.

In that case, the new structure could be:

This means “madrid” could still be the standard Xiaomi 18, despite carrying a model position that would traditionally suggest a Pro device. For now, the safest interpretation is that “madrid” belongs to the Xiaomi 18 series, but the final commercial name remains unconfirmed.

2611 model number points to November 2026 launch window

Another major detail is the 2611 prefix in the regional model numbers. Xiaomi model numbers often include a timing clue, and 2611 strongly suggests a target period around November 2026.

This is notable because earlier leaks had suggested that the Xiaomi 18 series could debut in September 2026. The new model-number evidence now points to a possible Q4 2026 launch, which may mean Xiaomi has delayed or adjusted the release schedule.

A Q4 launch would also give Xiaomi more time to prepare its next-generation flagship platform, optimize Xiaomi HyperOS, and align production with newer memory and chipset technologies.

Xiaomi 18 series expected to use Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 Pro and LPDDR6

The Xiaomi 18 series is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 Pro, Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship chipset for premium Android phones. The phones are also rumored to adopt LPDDR6 memory, which would bring a major improvement in memory bandwidth, efficiency, and AI-related processing performance.

Expected technical highlights include:

This combination suggests Xiaomi is still committed to building high-performance compact flagships, a category that has become increasingly rare in the Android market.

Small-screen Xiaomi flagships are still on track

The leak also supports earlier claims that Xiaomi will continue offering small-screen flagship phones. Current information points to a 6.3–6.4-inch display size, which keeps the Xiaomi 18 series close to the compact flagship identity of previous Xiaomi numbered models.

This is a strategic move for Xiaomi. While many brands are pushing larger flagship phones, Xiaomi continues to target users who want premium performance, high-end cameras, and advanced software features in a more practical form factor.
