Xiaomi’s next-generation foldable phone is expected to become one of the company’s most important premium devices in years. According to a new leak from blogger Smart Pikachu, the mysterious foldable device, widely expected to launch as the Xiaomi MIX Fold 5, may debut with Xiaomi HyperOS 4 and deeply integrated AI-powered system applications. The phone is also to use Xiaomi’s new self-developed XRING O3 chipset, a detail XimiTime exclusively revealed earlier through the lhasa codename, Q18 platform, and model number 2608BPX34C.
HyperOS 4 may focus on AI-powered system apps
The latest leak from XimiTime claims that Xiaomi’s upcoming foldable will be the first device to feature Xiaomi HyperOS 4. More importantly, the system is said to include AI-powered system applications, meaning Xiaomi may integrate artificial intelligence directly into core apps rather than offering AI only as a separate assistant or cloud feature.
Smart Pikachu also described the device as the best AI interaction platform, suggesting that Xiaomi may use the larger foldable screen to create a more advanced productivity and multitasking experience. In the comments, the blogger reportedly added that HyperOS 4’s AI features will be closely integrated with application development.
This could mean Xiaomi is preparing deeper AI features inside apps such as Notes, Gallery, File Manager, Recorder, Browser, Calendar, and system-level multitasking tools. On a foldable phone, this would be especially important because users expect a more PC-like experience from the larger inner display.
XimiTime revealed the XRING O3 foldable details earlier
Although the latest Chinese report says the Xiaomi MIX Fold 5 may use the XRING O3 chipset, this information is not completely new. XimiTime already revealed around two months ago that Xiaomi was testing a mysterious foldable device with the codename lhasa, internal platform Q18, and model number 2608BPX34C.
XimiTime also uncovered early XRING O3 clock details, showing that Xiaomi was preparing a new-generation self-developed chip for this foldable device. The latest leak now strengthens those earlier findings and suggests that the Xiaomi MIX Fold 5 may become the first major Xiaomi foldable powered by the company’s own flagship SoC.
The XRING O3 is expected to compete with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform, making it a critical step for Xiaomi’s long-term chip strategy.
Xiaomi’s most expensive Leica flagship foldable
The leak describes the device as Xiaomi’s most expensive Leica flagship phone, which means Xiaomi may position the MIX Fold 5 above its regular Ultra models in both price and technology. This would make sense if the device combines a foldable form factor, Leica imaging, XRING O3, and Xiaomi HyperOS 4’s AI features.
For reference, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 was released in July 2024 with a starting price of 8,999 yuan, or approximately $1,328. It featured a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform, a 7.98-inch inner display, a 6.56-inch outer display, a Leica Summilux quad-camera system, and a 5100mAh Xiaomi Jinshajiang battery.
The Xiaomi MIX Fold 5 is expected to move beyond a normal hardware refresh. With HyperOS 4, AI-powered system apps, and Xiaomi’s own XRING O3 chipset, the device could become a showcase product for Xiaomi’s next software and silicon generation.
How HyperOS 4 could improve the foldable experience
AI integration inside HyperOS 4 could bring major real-world benefits to a foldable device. The larger inner screen gives Xiaomi more space to build advanced multitasking, smart summaries, image editing, document processing, and cross-app AI workflows. Possible improvements may include: This would allow Xiaomi to present the MIX Fold 5 not only as a foldable phone, but also as a productivity-focused AI device.
