Reports indicate that Visionox is developing ViP OLED display panels for future Xiaomi products, including smartphones, smartwatches, and 3D smart glasses. According to South Korean media THE ELEC, shipments could begin as early as 2026, making this one of the most important display supply-chain developments for Xiaomi’s next-generation ecosystem. Interestingly, this also connects with XiaomiTime’s earlier report about the cancelled Xiaomi 17 Air, which was internally linked to a Visionox panel before the project was reportedly stopped due to weak demand expectations for ultra-thin smartphones.
What is Visionox ViP OLED technology?
Visionox’s ViP OLED technology, also known as Visionox Smart Pixelation, is a next-generation AMOLED production method designed to overcome the limits of traditional Fine Metal Mask manufacturing. Instead of relying on FMM for RGB pixel deposition, ViP uses a lithography-based RGB self-alignment process.
This allows Visionox to produce more precise AMOLED pixels, improve panel efficiency, and support higher pixel density across different screen sizes. The technology is especially important for compact devices such as smartwatches and near-eye display products, where sharpness, brightness, and power efficiency matter more than ever.
Key ViP OLED advantages
According to Visionox’s technical claims, ViP OLED brings major improvements compared with conventional AMOLED panels:
When combined with Tandem OLED stacking, Visionox says the panel can achieve up to 4x higher brightness or 6x longer lifespan, depending on the final product tuning. This makes the technology suitable not only for smartphones, but also for wearables and smart glasses where heat, battery life, and display durability are critical.
Xiaomi 17 Air was previously linked to Visionox panels
This report is notable because XiaomiTime had previously revealed that Xiaomi was testing a Visionox display panel on the device codenamed “pecan,” internally linked to the Xiaomi 17 Air project. According to the leaked information, the device carried internal identifiers BSP4001 / CAM4063 and was planned as a China-exclusive model.
The Xiaomi 17 Air was expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite platform and a premium camera setup, including a 200MP Samsung S5KHP5 main camera and a 50MP OmniVision OV50M ultra-wide camera. This shows that Xiaomi was not treating the device as a simple experimental model, but as a serious premium product with flagship-level hardware.
However, the Xiaomi 17 Air project was reportedly cancelled due to the possibility of weak market demand for ultra-thin smartphones. While the device itself may no longer reach consumers, the Visionox connection suggests that Xiaomi’s work with this display supplier may continue in other future products.
Affected Xiaomi products and expected use cases
The new report mentions three possible Xiaomi product categories that could use Visionox ViP OLED panels:
For smartphones, ViP OLED could help Xiaomi deliver brighter and more efficient AMOLED panels with improved pixel precision. For smartwatches, the biggest benefit would be lower power consumption, which could improve battery life without reducing brightness. For 3D smart glasses, the high pixel density of up to 1700ppi could provide sharper text, cleaner UI elements, and better visual comfort for near-eye viewing.
Current production status
Visionox’s ViP OLED technology has already moved beyond the concept stage. Reports indicate that the company achieved mass production and shipments in Q1 2026, initially with Honor wearable products. The company currently manufactures these panels on its G6 production line, while the newer Hefei Guoxian G8.6 production line is in the equipment introduction and commissioning stage.
However, Xiaomi has not officially announced any product with a Visionox ViP OLED panel yet. For now, this should be considered a supply-chain development rather than a confirmed launch plan.
