Xiaomi HyperOS 4 may end the trick to try new features early

Xiaomi HyperOS 4 could mark a major turning point for users who install China system apps on Global ROM devices to access new features earlier. For years, Xiaomi’s China builds have received new system apps, UI changes, and experimental functions ahead of Global versions. However, with the new Rust + Flutter-based app architecture, this cross-system usage model may become far less practical, especially as China apps increasingly lose English language support and become harder to use on Global devices.

What Is Changing With HyperOS 4?

Xiaomi offers two main HyperOS branches: China ROM and Global ROM. Although Global ROM is divided innto different regions such as Global, EEA, India, Indonesia, Taiwan, and others, these versions generally share the same international software base.

China ROM, however, usually receives new features earlier. In many cases, new system app changes appear in China builds nearly one month before Global rollout. Because of this, advanced users often install China system apps on Global Xiaomi, REDMI, and POCO devices to access features early.

With Xiaomi HyperOS 3.1, this situation started to change. Xiaomi began rebuilding several system apps with a new Rust + Flutter architecture, focusing on faster performance, cleaner code, and reduced dependency on older MIUI components. The downside is that many new China system apps no longer include English language resources.

As a result, when users install these China apps on Global ROM:

  • Some apps may not work correctly.
  • Some apps may open only in Chinese.
  • Some interface elements may appear broken or untranslated.
  • Users may lose access to expected Global ROM behavior.
  • The app experience becomes difficult for non-Chinese users.

This is especially important because Chinese uses a completely different writing system. Unlike partially translated apps in European languages, a fully Chinese-only system app becomes almost unusable for many Global users.

Why Rust + Flutter Matters

Rust and Flutter are becoming more important inside Xiaomi HyperOS because they allow Xiaomi to modernize system apps with better speed, smoother animations, and more consistent UI behavior. Rust is known for performance and memory safety, while Flutter allows Xiaomi to create modern interface components with flexible animations and cross-platform UI logic. Together, they can help Xiaomi build faster and cleaner system applications.

However, this new structure also makes older cross-version tricks less effective. In the MIUI era, many system apps could be moved between ROM branches more easily. With HyperOS 4, Xiaomi is expected to clean more old MIUI code from the system and move more core components to the new architecture. That means the old habit of installing China ROM apps on Global ROM devices to unlock early features may slowly disappear.

One of the best examples is the new Rust-based Gallery app. Although it is much faster and smoother than the older version, Xiaomi has still not released the same Rust-based Gallery experience globally. Because of this, Global users cannot properly benefit from the faster China Gallery app in a stable and fully translated way.

HyperOS 4 Release Timing and Liquid Glass Design

According to leaks, Xiaomi HyperOS 4 may be introduced around July or August 2026. The update is also expected to bring a new Liquid Glass-style design, with more transparent UI surfaces, smoother visual effects, and a deeper system-wide design refresh.

This change could be much bigger than a normal visual update. If Xiaomi rebuilds more system areas with Rust and Flutter, HyperOS 4 may become the version that finally removes many old MIUI-era components from the system. That would make HyperOS cleaner and faster, but it may also reduce compatibility with older app packages and region-mixed system components.
