Xiaomi community ports HyperOS 4 beta to 9 years old Xiaomi Mi 6

Chinese developers have successfully managed to run the new HyperOS 4 on the Xiaomi Mi 6, an older flagship originally released in 2017. Despite its age, the Mi 6 now supports notable HyperOS 4 features such as Dynamic Island and Soft Light Glass visual effects.

Xiaomi Mi 6 and Its Legacy Hardware

The Xiaomi Mi 6 debuted in 2017 with MIUI 8 and featured a Snapdragon 835 chipset, a 5.15-inch LCD IPS screen, and a dual-camera setup. Its hardware is significantly dated compared to current Xiaomi models officially targeted by HyperOS 4. The original software and hardware limitations make the successful retrofit of HyperOS 4 especially interesting for enthusiasts.

HyperOS 4 Beta Released in August 2026

HyperOS 4 officially entered beta testing on August 14, 2026. The new version introduces fresh design elements like the Soft Light Glass interface and dynamic widgets, as well as functional changes exemplified by the Dynamic Island feature. While Xiaomi’s update plans primarily focus on newer devices, this community effort shows the extent to which HyperOS 4 can be ported to older hardware.

Implications of the Mi 6 HyperOS 4 Port

The Xiaomi Mi 6 is not officially supported for HyperOS 4, which is designed for recent devices with advanced chipsets. The fact that Chinese developers enabled key HyperOS 4 features on this dated phone shows a strong community interest in extending software life cycles beyond the official scope. However, this port is custom and unofficial, with unknown stability or full feature compatibility.
