HyperOS 4 officially coming this summer, Xiaomi confirms

Xiaomi has officially confirmed that its next-generation operating system will debut in July or August 2026, according to new statements from Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing during the company’s latest earnings call.

The announcement arrives at a critical time for the smartphone industry, as memory and storage component prices continue rising globally. Despite these pressures, Xiaomi says it does not plan to directly shift increased costs onto consumers. Instead, the company is focusing on software optimization, AI integration, and product restructuring to maintain profitability while keeping devices competitive.

HyperOS 4 may introduce a completely new interaction system

While Lu Weibing did not explicitly mention the final branding of the upcoming OS, all current leaks and internal developments strongly point toward Xiaomi HyperOS 4 being the platform referenced during the earnings call.

According to Xiaomi-related discoveries and recent internal testing, HyperOS 4 is expected to deliver one of the biggest UI and framework transformations in Xiaomi history. Xiaomi previously confirmed that the new generation OS will provide a “different interactive experience,” signaling major changes beyond standard visual redesigns.

Based on previous leaks and internal findings, HyperOS 4 may include:

  • New “Liquid Glass” inspired visual design language
  • Heavily improved animations with new bounce effects
  • Redesigned multitasking and launcher interactions
  • Expanded Rust-based system framework integration
  • Deeper Flutter-powered application architecture
  • AI-focused system optimization across the interface
  • Smarter contextual AI features integrated into daily usage
  • Enhanced HyperConnect ecosystem experiences
  • More advanced memory management and background optimization

Earlier leaked HyperOS 4 Launcher builds also revealed redesigned long-press menus and smoother opening/closing app animations. Internal version strings such as RELEASE-7.00.11.5075-05181729-R further suggested Xiaomi is accelerating its transition toward Rust-based components, which initially started expanding with HyperOS 3.1.

Xiaomi says AI will reshape its smartphone business

Lu Weibing emphasized that Xiaomi is continuing its dual strategy of premium expansion and aggressive globalization while simultaneously restructuring the smartphone business around AI technologies.

He specifically highlighted the integration of “Super AI” technologies as a major milestone for Xiaomi this year. This aligns with Xiaomi’s broader long-term strategy of combining self-developed chips, AI models, software, and ecosystem products into a unified platform experience.

The company also revealed that:

  • Xiaomi has remained in the global top three smartphone brands for 23 consecutive quarters
  • Smartphone average selling prices reached record highs
  • Overseas ASP performance also hit historical records
  • Smartphone gross margins exceeded expectations despite industry pressure

Software optimization becomes more important amid rising costs

One of the most notable statements from Lu Weibing involved increasing memory and storage costs affecting the smartphone industry. Xiaomi says it cannot simply increase prices for consumers and instead plans to offset costs through software optimization and product matrix improvements.

This could explain why Xiaomi is investing heavily into HyperOS optimization, lightweight frameworks, AI-assisted resource management, and Rust-powered system components. These changes may help devices deliver better long-term performance while reducing hardware inefficiencies.

HyperOS 4 release timeline

Current information suggests Xiaomi may unveil the next-generation HyperOS platform sometime between July and August 2026, potentially alongside upcoming flagship devices such as the Xiaomi 18 series.

The update is expected to first debut on flagship models before expanding gradually across Xiaomi, REDMI, and POCO ecosystems globally.
