La pantalla trasera del Xiaomi 18 podría ser aún más inteligente con HyperOS 4

The Xiaomi 18 series is shaping up to be one of Xiaomi’s most ambitious flagship upgrades for 2026. According to the latest reports from blogger @SmartPikachu , the upcoming Xiaomi 18 series is currently slated for release in September 2026 and may retain the rear display design introduced with the Xiaomi 17 Pro series. The phones are also expected to feature a custom 200MP LoFIC main camera , a brighter 2K-class front display, and Xiaomi HyperOS 4 with deeper AI integration.

Rear display, 200MP LoFIC camera, and new screen improvements

The most significant aspect of the leak is that the Xiaomi 18 series is expected to retain the rear display . This suggests that Xiaomi doesn’t view the secondary screen as a one-generation experiment, but rather as a key long-term feature of its flagship models.

Previous reports also claimed that Xiaomi is working on a larger and more advanced rear display for the Xiaomi 18 Pro series, and some leaks point to a much larger panel compared to the Xiaomi 17 Pro series. The Xiaomi 17 Pro featured a 2.7-inch rear display, while more recent reports suggest that the upcoming model could have a 4-inch secondary display with increased brightness, higher pixel density, and privacy-related improvements.

Regarding the camera, the Xiaomi 18 series is rumored to use a custom 200MP LoFIC main camera . LoFIC technology is designed to improve dynamic range, especially in challenging lighting conditions where bright areas and dark shadows appear in the same frame. This could help the Xiaomi 18 series take sharper photos in nighttime scenes, backlit portraits, and high-contrast outdoor environments.

The front screen is also expected to receive a significant upgrade. The leak mentions a large display with rounded corners and a 2K equivalent resolution , along with improved brightness. This suggests that Xiaomi may be focusing on better outdoor visibility, sharper visual quality, and a more elegant design with curved corners.

The AI button could return to Xiaomi’s flagship models.

Another important detail comes from previous leaks by @DigitalChatStation , which claimed that the Xiaomi 18 series could incorporate a dedicated AI button . This wouldn’t be Xiaomi’s first attempt at including a physical button for the assistant. Previous models, such as the MIX 3 and the Xiaomi 9 , included a specific button to activate Xiao Ai, Xiaomi’s AI assistant.

However, Xiaomi later removed this design from its flagship range. If the AI button returns with the Xiaomi 18 series, it could play a much more significant role than before. Instead of simply activating the voice assistant, it could be used for quick AI translations, image recognition, document summaries, camera tools, and system-level automation.

The return of a physical AI button would also fit with the direction Xiaomi HyperOS 4 is expected to take, where AI features are reportedly being integrated directly into app development rather than being limited to a separate assistant layer.

New materials and bolder colors are being tested

The Xiaomi 18 series could also bring changes to the casing materials. According to the same leak, Xiaomi is testing glass and fiberglass casing options , including a new generation of transparent fiberglass.

A photochromic color solution has reportedly also been evaluated . Photochromic materials can change appearance depending on lighting conditions, giving the phone a more dynamic and modern look. The engineering sample is said to have a bolder and more recent color palette than previous Xiaomi flagship models.

This shows that Xiaomi may be trying to make the Xiaomi 18 series stand out not only for its cameras and performance, but also for its physical design and innovative materials.

Xiaomi is creating a more recognizable identity for its flagship models

The Xiaomi 18 series appears to continue Xiaomi’s strategy of making its numbered flagship models more recognizable. Instead of focusing solely on chipset and camera improvements, Xiaomi is now creating a more comprehensive high-end identity around rear displays, AI controls, advanced materials, and Xiaomi HyperOS features.

This is important because the high-end Android market is becoming increasingly competitive. Samsung, Apple, vivo, OPPO, and Honor are all investing heavily in AI features and advanced camera systems. Xiaomi’s advantage could lie in combining all these areas into a single, ecosystem-based device experience.

A September 2026 launch would also place the Xiaomi 18 series among the first next-generation Android flagship models of the year, giving Xiaomi a head start in the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 generation . The global launch date is still unknown.
