Xiaomi launches Longjia Battery for EV with Lifetime Fire Safety Guarantee

Xiaomi has officially introduced the Longjia battery, developed jointly with CALB and Sunwoda, as part of its new battery strategy announced on September 4th. Alongside the battery launch, Xiaomi unveiled the “Longjia Battery Peace of Mind Protection Plan,” offering lifetime guarantees covering battery fire incidents caused by quality issues.

Lifetime Fire Safety Guarantees with Vehicle Replacement

The protection plan covers two key scenarios. First, if the original Longjia battery catches fire due to a quality defect and the vehicle is deemed a total loss, Xiaomi promises compensation with a new car of equivalent specifications. Second, if battery fire results from collisions or chassis scratches causing ignition and the vehicle is scrapped, Xiaomi will cover the difference between the vehicle damage insurance policy limit and the actual insurance payout.

Technical Advances Surpassing National Safety Standards

The Longjia battery system is a product of Xiaomi’s leadership on product design, battery pack development, cell design participation, and full-process quality control. It aims to exceed China’s national battery safety standards in several aspects:

  • Structural Safety: Xiaomi requires the battery bottom to withstand impacts with a 25mm diameter impactor at 500J energy, which is harsher than the national standard of a 30mm impactor at 150J. After impact, the battery must show no leakage, fire, explosion, or performance loss.
  • Thermal Safety: The battery must prevent thermal runaway propagation, fire, or explosion even when a single cell overheats at 55°C under full charge. This exceeds the national requirement tested at around 22°C with over 95% charge.
  • Electrical Safety: The battery design includes large safety margin distances and a millisecond-level mechanical switch that physically cuts high voltage during emergencies like short circuits or collisions to protect the battery.
  • Data Safety: The battery supports around-the-clock vehicle-cloud safety coordination and AI-based proactive Cloud inspection, collecting data at 10x the national standard frequency and 3x the data volume for continuous safety monitoring.
  • Cell Cycle Life: Longjia battery cells maintain over 80% capacity after more than 1000 cycles, outperforming the baseline national requirement.

This development represents Xiaomi’s first major move into comprehensive battery solutions for electric vehicles under direct control of design and quality.
