According to a recent report by TrendForce, global smartphone production reached 275 million units in the second quarter of 2026. This figure represents an 8% decline compared to the same period last year but is less severe than initially expected.

Q2 2026 Smartphone Production by Brand
Samsung maintained the top position with approximately 62 million units produced in Q2 2026, marking a 7% year-over-year increase. The report credits Samsung’s later flagship phone releases and increased use of Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) production for its mid-to-low-end models. This approach helped Samsung manage memory chip costs while keeping prices competitive.
Apple ranked second, producing about 52 million smartphones, a 14% increase year over year. TrendForce attributes this growth to the pricing strategy of the iPhone 17 series. However, the upcoming iPhone 18 series is expected to see a price increase, leaving its future sales performance uncertain.
Third to fifth place were OPPO, Xiaomi, and vivo, producing around 30 million, 29 million, and 21 million units respectively. These manufacturers focused on maintaining market share and stable profitability as their main strategies.
Revised 2026 Global Production Forecast
Based on the stronger-than-expected Q2 performance, TrendForce raised its full-year 2026 global smartphone production forecast by 20 million units, from 1.05 billion to 1.07 billion units. The revised forecast reflects a smaller annual decline, adjusting the year-over-year drop from 16% to 14%.
The report suggests that early consumer purchases and manufacturers replenishing their production plans contributed to this better outcome.
