SK Hynix is preparing to mass-produce its new low-power mobile DRAM, LPDDR6, starting in the second half of 2026. According to a report by Herald Korea, the company completed development of LPDDR6 in March 2026 and is currently finalizing production readiness.
The new LPDDR6 memory uses the sixth-generation 10nm process (1c), offering improvements in data transfer speed and power efficiency compared to the previous generation. SK Hynix plans to supply this memory first to Xiaomi for its next-generation flagship smartphones. While SK Hynix declined to confirm specific customer details, the company has a longstanding partnership with Xiaomi dating back to 2013 when it began supplying LPDDR3 for some Xiaomi models. The collaboration has continued through successive DRAM generations, including the recent supply of LPDDR5X.
SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics dominate the mobile DRAM market, with both advancing LPDDR6 development. Samsung unveiled its LPDDR6 product based on fifth-generation 10nm (1b) technology in January 2026, earning an innovation award at CES 2026. The LPDDR market faces supply pressures as manufacturers allocate more capacity to general-purpose DRAM and HBM products, driving up prices. Demand for LPDDR extends beyond mobile devices, increasingly encompassing AI computing and servers due to the need for high-performance, low-power memory.
Market research by TrendForce shows a 64.5% year-on-year revenue growth in mobile DRAM during Q1 2026. Revenue is expected to continue rising in Q2, driven by higher contract prices. The adoption of LPDDR6 in Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship devices marks an important step in delivering faster and more energy-efficient memory technology to smartphones.
