Launch to Coincide with HyperOS-Powered XRING O3 Chip Debut
At a technical event on August 24, Xiaomi officially introduced its self-developed XRING O3 chip. The Xiaomi 18 Fold will be the first device to use this new chip. The phone is expected to launch in September.
First Smartphone with ChangXin LPDDR6 Memory
Xiaomi recently confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Fold will globally debut the ChangXin LPDDR6 memory modules. The XRING O3 chip is the first processor to support this new LPDDR6 memory standard. This marks a move towards more local components in Xiaomi’s supply chain.
What This Means for Users
The combination of a large battery and fast charging will help address foldable phones’ typical battery concerns. The new XRING O3 chip with LPDDR6 memory may improve performance and efficiency, but detailed benchmarks and real-world results are still pending. This device will be China only device.
With a 7.6-inch screen, the Xiaomi 18 Fold will compete in the large foldable category, possibly building on Xiaomi’s previous foldable models.
