While Xiaomi is preparing to launch the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G under two different brands globally, the devices won’t be completely identical. According to information shared by kacskrz on X, Xiaomi is planning different rear camera configurations for the POCO X8 and the global REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G, despite both being based on the same platform.
Different Secondary Cameras
The leak reveals that both smartphones will feature the same 50MP primary camera, but their secondary sensors will differ.
POCO X8
- 50MP main camera
- 2MP depth sensor
This matches the camera configuration found on the Chinese REDMI Note 17 Pro.
Global REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G
- 50MP main camera
- 8MP ultra-wide camera
Instead of a depth sensor, Xiaomi is reportedly equipping the global REDMI variant with an ultra-wide lens, giving users more flexibility for landscape and group photography.
Xiaomi Differentiates REDMI and POCO
This suggests Xiaomi is using hardware differentiation rather than simple rebranding.
Although both devices share the same core platform, processor, display, battery, and charging technology, the camera setup gives each brand its own identity. The POCO X8 continues to prioritize value and performance, while the global REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G offers a more versatile camera experience.
