Xiaomi appears to be preparing an unusual dual-brand strategy for its latest mid-range smartphone. While analyzing the latest Mi Code, XimiTime has identified that the newly launched REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G is also planned to launch globally as the POCO X8. Unlike previous generations, Xiaomi is expected to sell the same hardware under both the REDMI and POCO brands in different regions.
Even more interestingly, our findings also indicate that the global POCO X8 will feature an 8,340mAh battery, making it one of the largest batteries ever included in a global POCO smartphone.
XimiTime Discovers POCO X8 in Mi Code
Our analysis of Xiaomi’s internal software confirms that the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G has a second commercial identity for international markets.
This means Xiaomi intends to market the device as:
- REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G (selected global regions)
- POCO X8 (selected markets)
This is one of Xiaomi’s more unusual branding decisions, as both brands will coexist with nearly identical hardware.
Why Is Xiaomi Launching POCO X8 So Late?
One aspect that raises questions is Xiaomi’s release timing.
The POCO X8 Pro and POCO X8 Pro Max debuted around eight months ago, making the delayed arrival of the standard POCO X8 somewhat unusual. Traditionally, Xiaomi launches the standard model first or alongside the Pro variants, making this staggered release strategy difficult to explain.
While Xiaomi has not commented on the reasoning, it may reflect changing regional product plans or an effort to refresh the lineup with newer hardware.
Global Model Gets an 8,340mAh Battery
Another major discovery is battery capacity.
According to information found by XimiTime, the global POCO X8 will be equipped with an 8,340mAh battery, making it one of the largest batteries ever seen on a global POCO smartphone.
This suggests Xiaomi has largely preserved the exceptional battery life introduced with the Chinese REDMI Note 17 Pro while adapting the capacity slightly for international markets.
Expected Specifications
The global POCO X8 is expected to retain most of the REDMI Note 17 Pro hardware, including:
- Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 processor
- 1.5K flat OLED display
- 120Hz refresh rate
- 50MP main camera
- 67W wired fast charging
- AI-powered anti-fraud protection
- IP66 + IP68 + IP69 + IP69K durability certifications
- 8,340mAh battery (global variant)
The appearance of both REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G and POCO X8 inside Xiaomi’s software indicates another evolution of the company’s global branding strategy. Rather than replacing one brand with the other, Xiaomi appears set to market the same device under both REDMI and POCO depending on the region.
