Xiaomi’s new higher-capacity battery replacement initiative is currently limited to the Chinese market, but global Xiaomi users are already hoping the company will expand the service internationally. A recent statement from a Xiaomi REDMI product manager confirmed that some older Xiaomi smartphones may receive upgraded replacement batteries with larger capacities than their original factory cells. However, the service is only officially available in China for now.
Xiaomi users may get larger batteries without buying a new phone
The discussion started after Xiaomi REDMI product manager @笋寸 advised users who are not planning to upgrade their phones anytime soon to wait before replacing their batteries. According to the executive, several older Xiaomi models could receive improved battery replacements with increased capacity.
The Xiaomi 13 series was specifically mentioned as an example where replacement batteries may provide better endurance than the original battery configuration. However, Xiaomi also clarified that this will not apply to every device.
Xiaomi 13 battery upgrade service is already available in China
Xiaomi previously launched an official battery upgrade service in China for:
- Xiaomi 13
- Xiaomi 13 Pro
- Xiaomi 13 Ultra
The service costs 189 yuan, approximately $26 USD, including both the upgraded battery and labor fees.
The upgraded batteries reportedly use newer high-density technology, allowing Xiaomi to increase capacity without increasing the physical battery size. This gives older flagship devices noticeably better battery life after replacement.
Global Xiaomi users are waiting for expansion
At the moment, Xiaomi has not announced any plans to bring the upgraded battery replacement service to global markets. Since the program depends on official Xiaomi service infrastructure and certified replacement components, regional rollout may take time.
Still, many Xiaomi fans outside China hope the company eventually expands the service internationally. Older flagship devices such as the Xiaomi 13 series, Xiaomi 14 series, and several REDMI and POCO models remain highly capable in daily use, making battery upgrades far more attractive than purchasing entirely new smartphones.
If Xiaomi expands this globally, it could become one of the company’s most consumer-friendly after-sales services.
