A development team known as oosexgangdevs has successfully installed iOS 16 on a OnePlus Ace 6T and Chinese developers booted it on Redmi Note 12 4G. This is not a theme, launcher, or emulator. Instead, the system uses Apple’s open-source XNU kernel combined with the original iPhone X user interface ported to the device.
The “About Phone” page within the system shows iOS version 16.5 and the model as iPhone X. Basic functions like touch input and volume keys work normally.
This effort follows a similar project by developer j0sh1x, who demonstrated iOS 7 running on the HTC HD2 by adapting the XNU kernel and relevant hardware support. That project showed user-mode iOS components working on older hardware with a functioning touchscreen.
The iOS 16 port for REDMI Note 12 4G is open source, allowing enthusiasts to explore and contribute to the development. It represents an intriguing step in cross-platform system ports for smartphones.
