Xiaomi has confirmed that the REDMI Note series has surpassed 500 million units sold globally since its debut in 2014. Ahead of the upcoming REDMI Note 17 Series launch, the company highlighted key milestones and industry firsts achieved by the lineup over its 12-year history.

Key Milestones in REDMI Note Evolution

The original REDMI Note, launched in March 2014, set a price-performance benchmark by offering a 5.5-inch large display and a 3,100 mAh battery for an affordable phablet experience.

  • In 2015/2016: The REDMI Note 3 brought the series’ first unibody metal design and rear fingerprint sensor. Its Snapdragon 650 variant became one of the best-selling value models worldwide.
  • The 2017: REDMI Note 4 and 4X raised battery endurance standards with a 4,100 mAh battery and the efficient 14nm Snapdragon 625 chipset, enabling a two-day battery life baseline.
  • 2018: REDMI Note 5 Pro introduced a dual AI-assisted camera setup and an 18:9 aspect ratio screen for a more modern visual style.
  • The independent Redmi brand’s first model, the REDMI Note 7 (2019), featured a 48 MP sensor and Gorilla Glass 5 with the “Little King Kong” durability concept brought to the mid-range segment.

  • 2023: REDMI Note 13 Pro+ featured the series’ first curved CrystalRes AMOLED screen and an official IP68 water and dust resistance rating.
  • 2024: Most recently, the REDMI Note 14 Series (2024) enhanced durability with IP68/IP69 protection, drop-resistant construction, and new silicon-carbon batteries exceeding 6,200 mAh capacity.

The series achieved several sales milestones:

  • 200 million units by 2021
  • 300 million units by 2022
  • Over 420 million by 2025
  • Officially 500 million by May 2026

REDMI’s ongoing strategy has focused on making high-end features accessible at competitive prices. This includes technologies often rare in flagship models, such as 200 MP cameras, ultra-fast 120W charging, and IP68 durability certification.

What to Expect from REDMI Note 17

The shared teaser for the REDMI Note 17 emphasizes “MAX battery, MAX quality, and MAX user experience.” This suggests the use of silicon-carbon batteries in the 6,500 to 7,000 mAh range, along with strengthened durability standards to enhance endurance and build resilience.
