A new post from reliable Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station suggests that the Xiaomi 18 series is now basically confirmed for a September 2026 launch window. The same leak also claims that vivo’s upcoming X500 series and OPPO’s Find X10 series are targeting the same month, meaning September could become one of the most competitive Android flagship launch periods of the year.
The post is also interesting because the comment section has started a new discussion around Xiaomi’s future naming strategy. While the Xiaomi 18 name now appears to be more certain, some users are already speculating that Xiaomi may skip the Xiaomi 19 generation next year, possibly following Apple’s expected jump in iPhone naming.
Xiaomi 18 Series Is Reportedly Coming in September
According to Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi’s next flagship lineup is “basically confirmed” for September. This strongly suggests that Xiaomi is moving forward with the Xiaomi 18 series despite recent rumors about changes to its Ultra model strategy. Xiaomi skips Xiaomi 18 Ultra this year.
The leak mentions three major flagship families aiming for the same period:
- Xiaomi 18 series
- vivo X500 series
- OPPO Find X10 series
This timing makes sense because Qualcomm’s next flagship Snapdragon platform is expected to power the next wave of premium Android phones. Xiaomi has usually tried to be one of the first manufacturers to launch devices with Qualcomm’s newest high-end chip, and the Xiaomi 18 series appears to continue that strategy.
HyperOS 4 Could Arrive Before the Xiaomi 18 Series
One of the most important details came from the comment section. When a user asked whether HyperOS 4 would arrive in August, Digital Chat Station replied that Lu Weibing previously said the earliest timing would be July, while the latest would be August.
This suggests Xiaomi may introduce HyperOS 4 before the Xiaomi 18 series hardware launch. If accurate, the software rollout could begin with previews, internal testing, or early beta builds before the new flagship phones arrive in September.
This would create a cleaner launch strategy:
- July–August 2026: HyperOS 4 announcement or early rollout
- September 2026: Xiaomi 18 series launch
- Late 2026: Wider HyperOS 4 rollout to more Xiaomi, REDMI, and POCO devices
Small-Screen Flagships Are Still Alive
Another user asked whether there would be a 6.3-inch model, and Digital Chat Station replied that “Mi, Blue, and Yao” all have small-screen models around 6.3 to 6.4 inches.
In this context:
- Mi likely refers to Xiaomi
- Blue likely refers to vivo
- Yao likely refers to OPPO / OnePlus-related branding in leak slang
This means Xiaomi is still expected to offer a compact flagship in the Xiaomi 18 lineup. That is important because many Android brands have moved toward larger screens, while Xiaomi has continued to keep a smaller flagship model alive in its standard numbered series.
The Xiaomi 18 may therefore remain close to the formula of previous compact Xiaomi flagships: premium chipset, high-end display, flagship camera tuning, and a smaller body compared to Pro or Pro Max models.
Is Xiaomi 19 Going to Be Skipped?
The most speculative part of the discussion is the possible Xiaomi 19 naming skip. One commenter asked whether the Xiaomi 18 would officially be called Xiaomi 18 or whether it was only a tentative name. Another user replied that it would probably still be called Xiaomi 18, but Xiaomi might skip a number next year because Apple is rumored to jump directly to the iPhone 20.
This does not confirm that Xiaomi will skip Xiaomi 19. However, it shows that Chinese tech circles are already discussing whether Xiaomi could adjust its naming strategy again.
Xiaomi already skipped the Xiaomi 16 name and moved directly to the Xiaomi 17 series, aligning its flagship numbering more closely with Apple’s iPhone 17 generation. If Apple really moves to iPhone 20 next year, Xiaomi may again face a branding decision: continue normally with Xiaomi 19, or jump forward to stay aligned with Apple’s numbering.
For now, the safest interpretation is:
- Xiaomi 18 series name looks increasingly likely
- Xiaomi 19 skip is only speculation
- Xiaomi may decide later depending on Apple’s 2027 naming strategy
