REDMI 17 and POCO C95 Pro spotted on GSMA database with new model numbers

A new GSMA database registration has revealed two upcoming Xiaomi smartphones: the REDMI 17 and POCO C95 Pro. However, the most interesting part is not just the names themselves. Xiaomi appears to have completely changed the expected model numbers of these devices compared to earlier leaks, suggesting the company may have redesigned the project internally after the recent chip supply crisis.

According to the latest database entries, the devices now carry entirely new identifiers, replacing the previously expected model numbers that surfaced months ago. This could indicate major hardware revisions, chipset adjustments, or even regional strategy changes before launch.

New GSMA database entries revealed

The latest registration data shows the following devices:

REDMI 17

  • Brand: REDMI
  • Market Name: REDMI 17
  • Model Numbers:
    • 2606FRN72Y
    • 2606FRN72L

POCO C95 Pro

  • Brand: POCO
  • Market Name: POCO C95 Pro
  • Model Numbers:
    • 2606FPC72Y
    • 2606FPC72L

These newly discovered identifiers are significantly different from earlier reports tied to the same internal project.

Xiaomi may have reworked the devices after the chip crisis

Previous leaks connected the internal codename zephyr – P19A to older hardware identifiers. Earlier expectations suggested the project would launch under these model numbers:

Old expected model numbers

  • 26012RN62L
  • 26012RN62Y
  • 26012PC62G

The sudden transition to the new 2606FRN72 and 2606FPC72 families strongly suggests Xiaomi made substantial internal changes during development. Industry sources have recently pointed to supply chain instability and chipset allocation issues affecting several entry-level and mid-range smartphone projects across multiple brands.

Because of this, Xiaomi may have:

  • Switched suppliers
  • Changed modem or platform configurations
  • Redesigned motherboard layouts
  • Altered regional launch strategies
  • Updated camera or battery configurations

At this stage, It is not confirmed the exact reason behind the changes.

REDMI 17 expected specifications

Current information suggests the REDMI 17 will be a Global-only smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 processor. This chipset focuses on affordable devices with efficient power consumption and stable daily performance.

Expected highlights include:

  • Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2
  • 4G connectivity
  • Budget-focused positioning
  • Global market launch

The absence of a China-specific model suffix may further support claims that the device is designed primarily for international markets.

POCO C95 Pro positioning confirmed

The POCO C95 Pro appears to target the affordable POCO lineup while potentially sharing a development platform with the REDMI 17. Xiaomi frequently reuses hardware foundations across REDMI and POCO devices, especially in the entry-level category.

The updated model numbers may indicate the company separated the devices into different hardware branches later in development.

The updated registrations show Xiaomi is still actively restructuring products even in late development phases. The company has recently become more flexible with hardware planning, especially after global chipset supply fluctuations impacted multiple smartphone manufacturers.
